These costumes were made for Maritza Mercado, a dancer and choreographer,
in association with the NORD/NOBA Center for Dance. This project featured 3
professional dancers and 6 students between the ages of 15 and 18. For the
"Familias Sonatas" piece, 6 vintage dresses were heavily altered to allow for
movement. For the "Womens Work" piece, diaphanous "work dresses" were
made in different colors for all 9 dancers. Both pieces were performed in New
York, Los Angeles and at the prestigous Jacob's Pillow, the longest running
modern dance festival in the U.S. Check out my videos to see performances of
"Women's Work" and "Familias Sonatas" at the New Orleans Center for the
Creative Arts (NOCCA) a very high-ranking pubic high school for the arts.
